Call them again. If they give you the same song in dance about calling the next day. Tell them NO, you fell for that scam the last time. Why couldn't they take care of you then?? What difference did it make today/tomorrow??

I got back my rejection card from DeWalt today saying I didn't send them the original invoice. I sent the one Mark signed. Anyone else who got rejected have any luck getting them to correct their error?

      Mark, any advice?

My father and I both got rejection cards about a month ago. I called 12/14/06 and some guy said someone in that department would call me back by 12/19/06. I have not heard anything since and need to follow up on that. The number is 866-444-5290 (which of course is not on the form).

For some sick reason, this whole thing makes me laugh.
I think I'm cheaper than a broke Scotsman, but a 15 minute special sale and you can't get the rebate just doesn't seem right.
You can't get what you don't pay for.

I am glad that you find humor in a problem with DeWalt.

What is the cryptic message supposed to mean?

"You can't get what you don't pay for." What is that?

I think the 'super limited time' and 'rebate' and 'extremely cheap' "sales" that retailers like CompUSA, Staples, Amazon, and others is hokey. Sure, maybe a few get the deal and get the rebates by getting there at 5am, or clicking on the link in the 8 minute window. But for the vast majority, it's just a marketing ploy to get consumers into their store to buy stuff they don't really need. It generates artificial demand where none existed.

I count myself amoung the many who have bought stuff you really didn't need or want because the price was so good. I don't think these marketing schemes are scams, per se, but it is clever, though rarely the bargin we thougt it was. Eskimos shouldn't buy sandals for a $1 a dozen, and I shouldn't buy mittens for 3 bucks a gross.

By the way. I've got 2 Ryobi laser levels I'll sell you for $9 each. On one hand, I could say I wasted $20 for laser levels I really didn't need, on the other, I can say I saved $40 which is way more than I spent.

              edit:
I did not mean to offend, just expressing my cynicism.

I hate rebates. It drives me insain when I get these letter back telling me I did not do or submit somthing right, particularly since I am very anal retentive and keep copies. I have had huge problems with Circuit City, Vonage and Cingular. They make up so many different programs they confuse themselves and then accuse the consumer of making the mistake. I particularly find this disturbing for retailers such as Circuit City who offer rebates and have the proof of purchase in their system!

I am sorry I was hostile with you, however I did not like the tone. HDT offered a great deal and everyone was still entitled to the rebate even though the original deal was great.

You are right, buying stuff just because it is a good deal is just plain dumb. Fortunately, I try to qualify my purchases based upon need rather just cost. I have gotten some incredibly good deals from HDT and have been incredibly happy with the service. I don't mind HDT using limited quantity sales to generate buzz. It is marketing but if you spend a lot of time by the computer you can get some great deals.

Luckily I have never fell for the laser levels! LOL!

I guess I don't understand your comments. Amazon had the DeWalt 3 Base Kit on sale a few months ago for something like $135. That sale lasted for almost a week. Lots of people I know purchased it at that price and received their rebates fine. Why would DeWalt have a problem with me paying $160? Maybe they have something against HDT?

I guess I'm just going to send in a computer printout receipt showing the same price as the one Mark provided.

When you purchased the router you created an account with HDT. You can log in and print a detailed receipt from your account. Hopefully they will accept that.

I called them again today. They said there were notes that I had called but no one ever returned my call (no kidding!). He stated that the "head rebate processor" Donna Johnson was looking for a copy of the receipt. I am faxing her another copy at fax 410-329-9147. The person who answered the phone could give no reason why the original receipt was not ok, other than they had outsourced the rebates and had problems.

Jeffrey: I am curious as to how you fell into this deal. After reading your post I called my local HD and no one knew anything about any $89 discount or a Discount Code "justsaynotoamazon". So I called another HD close by and the guy at the contractors desk knew nothing, but put me in touch with a store manager. The manager seemed to know nothing about the discount code, but he went over to the shelf where the router was located, and said sure I'll knock off $89. !!!! ????? Do you know how this discount thing works? I wonder what would have happened if I would have said $129? Also, how do we find out about other such deals?

I think you are confused! This is not a HD deal, this is a HDT (heavydutytools.net) deal! I imagine the local Home Depot had absolutely no idea what you were talking about!!! Discount codes are generally for websites, I would have thought you would have confused with HD.com if anything.
You found yourself a pretty amazing HD manager though!

HDT is Heavy Duty Tools (not Home Depot). Linky follows:
                          http://heavydutytools.net/Scripts/default.asp

However, what the heck sounds like it might not be a bad idea to call back that same store and say you found a buy one get one free deal on a Ridgid TS. The manager there must be something else.
Don't be stupid, the universe is watching.

I don't get the laughter. DeWalt is trying to crap on Jeff's rebate request.

Gee, no need to be defensive. The humor lies in the irony of us consumers in general trying to get great bargins and the sellers often making it difficult. I don't think DeWalt is trying to 'crap' on the rebate request, it's just that all rebates are harder than we think. We end up 'earning' the money by having to get up early to be at the store at 5 am, filling out rebate forms and making calls, and signing up for SPAM so we can get the 'deal' for something we don't need.

We really end up paying for the discount with out time and effort unless it's something we end up not using. I've got two of those worthless Ryobi laser levels that aren't really levels, they only show a line if you level the level with something other than what comes with it.

Have you seen the commercials for the SouthWest airlines 'Discount Ping' for your computer? Isn't that just getting people to travel when they really weren't planning on it? 'Ping', Oh boy! I can fly to Newark on Tuesday for $38! Regularly $189, it's such a deal it doesn't matter it's winter and you don't know anyone there. LOL
