Will it accept a riser & can you do reasonable resaw on it w/ the small motor or just for cuttng curves?
Also, was this a special price or a closeout item? Where are you located? What state?Never met a bargain I didn't like.Comment

Never own a bandsaw before, can't answer your question. I picked mine up at Schaumburg Illinois store.Originally posted by davidtuWill it accept a riser & can you do reasonable resaw on it w/ the small motor or just for cuttng curves?

David,
It won't accept a riser. It is a solid frame construction.... very typical of most of the newer bandsaws. In some ways, I guess it is superior..... unless you need 12" resaw capacity on an inexpensive saw. I don't remember the resaw limit, but probably around 6" or 7". I did resaw some 6" walnut with a 3tpi blade. It was a little slow, but sure got the job done well. It uses an 82" (I think) blade. Even though you can't just grab the blades off the shelf at the local BORG, that is probably a good thing. Suffold Machinery will cut you the right blade length, and their blades are FAR better than anything you could get locally.
The ONLY reason I can think of not to get this saw, is if you want to fork out the extra money and get the new Craftsman 12". The Craftsman is a little nice in a lot of ways, but the BS220LS is a dang good saw for that price. If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.Comment

A great saw for that price -- I paid almost $300 several years ago.
It has a 6" resaw capacity, no riser available since it has a one-piece frame.
You get a brand name 12" saw with 6" resaw.
Compared to any brand name 14" saw with a price tag of at least $350-400
you get 85% of the throat width (12" vs 14"), same resaw (6" vs 6" but no riser capability)
and a little less HP 1/2 vs 3/4. for less than 1/2 the price.Last edited by LCHIEN; 07-13-2006, 07:22 AM.

i got one of these-new blade suggestion?
i've been looking at these for a while now- the price was just too good to pass up. i assume the stock blade should be replaced? when i was at woodcraft today i saw they have their brand and one made by timberwolf- would either of these be ok?
thanks,

Don't wish to hijack here, but same subject.
Resaw on my 10" Delta Shopmaster is 7". I was a little concerned about the quality of the job.
Just got my 1/2" 3 TPI blade and cut a scrap piece of maple (3/4" x 5").
Beautiful!!
I'm so happy no upgrade required right now!!Brian

Probably regional. They were selling KING 14" bandsaws up here. I see they sold them all and have no offering now.Brian

The pricing for each of the Costco stores could be different. For people in the DFW area, the Plano store discounted the bandsaw to $89, the Arlington store discounted to $100 (the display is still there), and the Fort Worth store is still at $140 (with 5 left in inventory since this morning).
I guess when Costco is trying to reduce inventory, each store may have different prices depending on the local manager there.
