10% Discount at HD for Military, Vets, Guard & Families of

    This came from AF Times...

"Active-duty, Guard and reserve personnel along with retired and other veterans, and their families, can receive a 10 percent discount off purchases up to $2,000 (for a discount up to $200).
To get the discount, you must show proof of military service to the Special Services desk at any store, where you will receive a coupon that can be redeemed at any cashier’s checkout register."

They seem to come out for most holidays now. Circuit City also has coupon out for 10% off, but not WW related...

Sounds like HD (bcecause of the special services desk), but you didn't mention a store name actually?

10% is shameful for anyone who's butt is/was on the line. I suppose it's better than no gesture at all.

All I can offer is my thanks and appreciation to all those that have served.

Ya know, sometimes you just hafta feel sorry for those people that work at HD who are really trying to do a good job. This AM, with my DD214 in hand, I headed out to HD to buy a circ. saw for my son. Once inside the store I headed straight for the Service Desk to pick-up my 10% discount coupon. I handed the form to the clerk and he asked if it was a tax exempt form. I explained to him that it was a copy of my military discharge and that I wanted the 10% discount coupon HD was offering to veterans. The poor guy looked at me with that "I don't have a clue what you're talking about" look on his face.

He was very apologetic about the whole deal and called a manager over who instructed him on how to handle the discount. After the manager left, I asked him why he hadn't known about this promo and his reply was that "they never tell us in advance about these things".

In the end, I got my discount so that was a good thing. I felt for the clerk though because he really was trying to do a good job but unfortunately his bosses made it more difficult than it should have been. In this case, managements failure to properly train the employees before the fact not only cost me extra time, it also cost them in lost productivity from that clerk.

Went the BORG today with my DD214. Went to the service desk and asked the clerk what I needed to do to get the 10%. She said just tell the cashier. Went to check out and told the cashier and she cut the bill 10%. They never asked for proof but they seemed to know about it. Of course, the store is right across the highway from a VA hospital.

not ww relate but Bass Pro SHop usually has 10% off for military. THe one here in Hampton,VA is only once in a while and the one outside chicago is all the time. I even got to use it on a gun which one guy said they are not supposed to reduce the price of guns. But when they rang it up they were like oh well....knocked about $45 off.
