    Bandsaws

Notice to all interested....I was in Costco in Charlotte a couple of days ago.
They had a 12'' Delta bandsaw (don't remember the model number) on sale
stand and all for $199.00. Not a bad price if you need one.

would this be a good choice among the lower priced band saws available? i'll be resawing 6" mahogany and other hardwoods.

      thanks,

I think you'll need a 14" band saw to be able to resaw 6" wide boards...

I have the same saw before the renumbered it. (Delta 12" BS).
It DOES have a 6" resaw capability so a 14" saw is NOT the only way to go, Venkat.
The power is a little less than a 14" and the width at 12" is a little less.
But I have equipped mine with a duginske fence and microadjuster and there is not a job I have tried on it it would not handle. I've just used the Delta blades I bought for it and no timberwolves, I think it works well.

I actually paid $300 for mine before I started reading BT3Central,
I think $229 is the going price now except for a brief spike when Lowes sold it for $129 or something on clearance well over a year ago.

For $199 it will be a good buy.

            Rocky,
I'm running a 14" Ridgid with 3/4 HP and it seems underpowered when I try to resaw. It goes much slower than I expected, makes me wish I bought something with 1 HP or more. So it may depend on how much resawing you'll do. For regular bandsaw cutting it will problably be fine.

i then went to home depot and found a ryobi ap1300 on display that i ended up dragging home

              thanks again,

I think the best bang for the buck has either got to be the
Grizz G0555 or the HF 4-speed 14" when on sale.
The former is all tricked out for a reasonable price and the latter is a lot of work and added parts needed for a dirt cheap price.

Still, the 14" craftsman is one heck of a saw for the money if you find it on sale. Under 400$ makes it a great buy.
