$299 for the HF 43389 DP?????

I must be missing something, but I've been looking for a decent price on the 43389 HF DP and all I can come up with is $299. Well I'm entirely too "frugal" to spend $299. So what am I missing, weren't these things just sellin' for $179-$189 not long ago?????
If it ain't broke.. don't fix it!!!... but you can always 'hop it up'

    179 is the sale price

goes on sale about every 3-4 months. With the coupon should be around $150-160

As mentioned it goes on sale periodically, like most HF stuff.

        I paid $179 - 20%.

I was confused a while back myself. The 43389 is a really heavy machine. Much more so than the 43378. Take a look at the handle on the side of the machine. One is cast iron.... the other is steel tubing...

I've seen that claimed on this forum. What they're seeing is that the scale goes to 3.25" However the stroke is 2.75", at least on mine.

The 43389 is a much heavier-duty drill press, but on mine the handles are the typical three-spoke steel rods, just like the 43378. I think they've phased out the cast iron handles on newer production runs of the 43389, so you might get lucky and find one that's been sitting in the warehouse for a while. I love the machine, though, so I'm not complaining too much. I just liked that cast iron handle on the display model better...
