    Are the good times really....?

It seems like almost a year ago; there were so many great power tools being closed out, that many of us outfitted our entire shops for almost pennies on the dollar. There were actually too many deals to go around for me, I ran out of money before I stocked up on tools. But the deals were incredible. I'm just thinking back on some of the all-time greats. Many of them I have, too many more I missed out on.

    Lowes:

Delta closeouts. I know I missed several...
    BS220LS 12" bandsaw: $87 (I got two)
    22-560 13" planer: $217 (I hated missing that one)
    DP-400 16.5" DP: $237 (another miss)
TS350 Contractor saw: $167 (i see they brought it back...$400)

Freud Ultimate router package: $199. (I tried it, but sold it used)
Kobalt 18" quick clamp 4pk: $15 (wish I could have found more)
    Marple Chisles: $20
Tradesman closeouts (I didn't really look)

    20% sale on power tools

    Home Depot:

Ryobi OSS500: $50 (just sold mine & got the ridgid...miss it)
    Delta 36-675 Contractor saw $400 (used 8 months ->upgraded)
Bosch 18v 6pk: $250 (got it, love it, use it all the time)
Husky 4pk quick clamps: $5 (not great, but get it done)

    Match Lowe's 20% + 10%
The Emerson trade when they closed out the grey tools. (I missed all of those.)

Sears: Some power tools but HUGE discounts on blades, bits, and other great stuff. (I got a very nice Johnson 4' level for $3. pennies on the dollar for router bits, TS blades, and other goodies).

Harbor Freight: Things were cheaper a year ago.
2HP Dust Collector: $120 (at least when I got mine)
DC accessory kit: $43 (I only got one. not available now)
14" bandsaw: $210 (I've never regretted this one)
    16" DP: $159 (I didn't get it....but I should have)

    Various others:
Holbren: Good deal any day of the week
    Delta 22-560 planer recon.: $99 Wilke's Machinery
Big Lots: Irwin clamps, olympia tools

Folks, I know I'm only remembering a few. I got most of my good deals buying used from other people who had gotten good deals on an upgrade.

Majority of house projects - and hence tool purchases - occur in summer. Means that sometime soon, shops will be clearing space to make room for new shiny stuff arriving for summer. I think we should all watch out for good bargains.

Bessey clamp deals are memorable without question. I ran out of money and the excuse to buy more sizes.

I personally took advantage of the Amazon Dewalt DW788 scroll saw deal. .
Marked down to $350 - $50 promo, free shipping, and Free dewalt reciprocating saw. I sold the recip saw on craigslist for $50 thereby netting the Scroll saw for about $250. Typically tricky to find this saw for less than $425 these days unless it is refurb

I forgot about the Dewalt Reciprocating saw.

$18.48 Net for Bosch 1617 fixed base with adjustment from top of table, the router, the collets and the wrenchs. Now I keep that in my router table and it matchs my Bosch hand held routers for simplicity sake (wrenchs, collets, etc).

Only found 1 rebate, and where do I get a 10% coupon. I need a good jointer, will this one do?

                Thanks

Don't forget the brief period when you could get the BT3100 for $150 after $50 rebate. I have a frankensaw thanks to that one right next to my $125 Hitachi bandsaw.

My two all time favorite bargains...
                      1) a few years ago Lowes goofed and gave $50 mail in rebate when you purchased a PC sander which sold for about $40.
                      2) 8 piece accy kits for the BT once were offer on ebay for $25. Someone was selling a whole truckload of them.

Umm, you are forgetting possibly the greatest tool orgy ever - when the Borg was closing out all of the Ridgid lifetime warranttee stuff. 6" jointers for $150, 14" bandsaws for $135, riser block for $25, fence for $19, Planers $99, oscillating spindle sander/belt sander $99, 15" floor standing drill press $125, table saw $250... And there were plenty for everyone who wanted in on the deal. NOW THOSE WERE THE GOOD OLD DAYS!! I'm shedding a tear just thinking about it.
