Cheap power switch for router table

I've seen switches at Rocker and elsewhere for $30. They mount on your router table and give you easy access to on/off. While my router table is an extension on my BT3K, and some people apparently use the saw's switch, I've found that to be inconvenient and also dangerous (sometimes forgetting which I have plugged in and worried that something may be sitting on the blade when I hit power).

Anyone know where I can get one of these switches for less. I'd prefer one that can mount underneath the table (suppoted by the top, as opposed to a leg or apron). It seems like a device HF could sell for $10.

    Thanks,
    Phil

I'm in the same spot. I think Rockler and Woodcraft have them for around $25, and sometimes even $20. I think HF is the same, about $20-25. I haven't seen the part on sale though at HF, but if they do have it on sale, I'll probably go snag one...

I think Sears has a Craftsman one for $20. Better than the $30 you're seeing at Rockler.

Look down towards the bottom of this web page at MLCS.

If you really want to go cheap, get those 2-gang blue plastic electrical boxes (zip box) (that you attach to framing of a house), mount a switch and a duplex outlet and an appropriate cover plate and strain relief. Take a salvaged electrical power cord and wire the thing up. Should be less than $6 (switch $1, Outlet $1, plate $0.50. box $3, Strain relief, $.50) and you'll have switched outlets for your router and vac..

I did as Loring suggested, but I got the switch/outlet combo and wired it so that the switch controls the outlet.

It looks like Amazon has the same as the MLCS one for $13.95

I was doing searches for myself and came across this one at Amazon. The picture looks almost identical to the one at MLCS for about $6.00 less. I can't say I know anything about the quality of either though.

            switches

Loring is on to the cheapest alternative, but if you must have a switch that looks like it belongs on a power tool, then Grizzly has some options.

at grizzly.com type in switch on the search and it has options ranging from $3.95 up to $80

If everyone remembers the Craftsman router table that was on sale a while back (really cheap http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...26+Attachments), I have a spare one of those switches that I have on a Skil router table. I'm willing to let it go if anyone wants it. I think I used that table/switch twice before getting the Craftsman. Heck, you can have the table too if you want. Please take the table with the switch. I need the room.

Really, if anyone wants it, all I ask is a resonable amount for shipping.

I bought the Rockler switch a while back when it was on sale for around $13. I have seen it at that sales price on and off several times. If you're not in a hurry and want this switch, I'd say there's a good chance you could snare it on sale again in the not-too-distant future.

                    Cheap switch

                    Try:

                    http://www.routerbitsonline.com/racc...switchbox.html

This is what I did. I used the Rockler Router table switch 83026. $14.99.

I used the switch and plug from a BT that was being parted out. Switch on the front and the plug inside the center compartment with the router.
