      got it!

I found this out thru Woodnet and was gonna post it here, but Ken beat me to it.

My order, confirmed thru email from amazon is:

1 "Jet JW1034 4" Clear Wire Reinforced Hose"
      Tools & Hardware; $37.39

      1 "Jet JW1044 4" to 2-1/2" Adapter"
      Tools & Hardware; $5.94

      1 "Jet JW1038 4" Quick Disconnect"
      Tools & Hardware; $7.99

1 "Jet 708739K/DC-1100 20" Housing Retro Kit with Housing"
      Tools & Hardware; $55.99

1 "Jet 709563/CB-5 Clear Plastic 20" Diameter Collection Bags"
      Tools & Hardware; $14.99

This was $122, but after $20 off, is like $102 for canister, hose, connectors and extra bags. My delivery estimate is also end of march to april 10th.

As far as it fitting on other makes, it should. First, look at the customer images on the amazon page. one has a close up of the box. Jet even says will fit most 1 1/2 to 2 hp DC's, this being after it states will fit the Jet DC-1100/1200. Also, this thing is the metal ring and canister. As such, the whole ring of your current system goes away. You might have an issue with the support braces, but a drill here, a drill there and she'll fit the braces (if they don't already have same mounting problem). As far as connecting to the motor, the Jet hole at the collar is 5". Many DC's are already at 5" from the motor, but if not, then a reducer (expander?) from 5 to 4 placed at the motor with 5" hose thereafter should be no problem (don't think you wanna put it at the collar, but rather at the motor).

now if I can win that local DC off ebay for under $50, I'm set with a canister collector for around $100, plus accessory hoses, couplings, etc.

I assume also that will fit my JDS DC which seems to be the same as all the others.
Brian, let me explain. Hope I do a good job.

The canister or cartridge (I'll just call it a can from here on) consists of a stiff pleated filter - folded back and forth. The net result is a surface area that is 7 to 20 times as much as one bag. You get more area for tighter folding and less for coarser folding. More on that later.

The theory goes, the two bag filter system when empty, basically filters the air withthe combined surface, but as the bottom bag fills, the air flow is reuced by lost area plus the bags cake over gradually reducing airflow while improving the filter cut (down to finer particles stopped.)

The Can approach says if you replace the bag on the top with the can, you instantly have 7 times (or more) surface filtersing area and hence 1/7th the flow restriction. Even with the bottom closed off. With a plastic bag on the bottom, you now have a throw-away bag you don't have to empty (what a mess) and clean and reuse.

The cascading advantages - the filter cut is finer to begin with (does not rely on the caking effect, and the easy to maintain bag situation I mentioned.

If the pleats are too close as some of the early wynn cans were, then the top can clog up. This has been remedied by looser pleats, and neutral vanes whcih direct bigger pieces into the bottom bag and by flappers or beaters which knock or vibrate the dust and chips off the filter into the bag below (Grizzly, Jet, PSI) or simply by blowing compressed air into the outside of the pleats (Wynn).

I think the 1.5 to 2 HP DCs all have 20" rings pretty much standard, so you can mount any of the replacement canisters fit for 20" rings on any of the 1.5 to 2 HP.
Jet also makes a 14" can for retrofitting onto two-bag, 1 HP DCs.

thanks for the info on the shipping,

Curt, great way to get the extra discount, i was gonna try the same but couldnt think of what to get, so i went ahead and just bought the canister ASAP, as it said first come first served.

Luckily I beat the cutoff, if amazon gets them in stock!

I'll update when i get mine, if guys do the same!

Well shoot, I've got to spend more time looking here than working... I just read this post and ran to Amazon, and "...This Item is no longer available..." RATS!! Oh well, will just have to save my rubles to get the Wynn Conversion kit for my HF DC...

Thanks for the post though! Maybe next time I will time it right....

Just came from http://www.thewoodworkingshows.com show in Milwaukee. A booth from http://www.woodworkersdepot.com had this kit and told me the price was $55.18. I almost crapped myself, til the guy pulled an oh no. As in oh no, thats the price for the metal ring 708739R. The retro fit KIT, 708739K, is $200+. For a second there I thought I got the best deal.

                    Old Housing, New Life.

In "retro" .... how ironic. What do you do with the old housing that you now have???? I KNOW>.............. It makes for a great downdraft sanding table!!!! All you need to do is seal the bottom with a piece of mdf, already have the port to hook up a DC Hose, and put a top on it ( of choosing, either..... mdf, ply, plex, etc. ) with holes drilled in it ..... and whala..... Now, that is a cheap downdraft table if I have ever heard of one. Comments??

                                Yeah, but ....

I also got the letter this weekend, but now what to do with the other stuff I had ordered (hose, quick disconnect, etc.) in order to get to the $120 off level in order to get the $20 off. Of course, they didn't yet apply the $20 off so all this stuff was "full" price, which I don't need at full price, but added to get discount!

geez, guess I'll try returnign it all.
