Twentysome years ago, I bought a Gillette Mach3 shaver and it came with a flimsy little plastic vacuum formed rest. My sense of overbuild went into overdrive and I filled the rest with epoxy to strengthen it. I used Devcon slow setting epoxy (comes in a twin tube syringe). When new, the epoxy had a very faint clear yellowish cast to it when cured. Now, after sitting in a drawer, when I'm not shaving, out of any form of light for twenty plus years, the epoxy is a rather dark orange. Some time ago I had to purchase blades, but the package came with a new handle, and another flimsy plastic vacuum formed rest. This one got filled with MAS Easy Cast epoxy, so we'll see how it ages.

Are we going to be around twenty more years to see this experiment? I'll be 98! Epoxy does strange things but it depends on the kind, brand and type. Yes, epoxies have a tendency to yellow or change colors but there are a few specialties that are used in casting that are much slower at yellowing. And there are different color epoxies also - look at JB Weld - black, white, gray etc. And then there are the specialty clear casting (non-yellowing)bresins that allow for tinting to different colors: https://www.amazon.com/Smallbudi-Crystal-Beginner-Supplies-Coating/dp/B0C3777Y7T/ref=sxin_16_pa_sp_search_thematic_sspa?content-id=amzn1.sym.6b4b6d33-3832-496c-bacc-442447e09e47%3Aamzn1.sym.6b4b6d33-3832-496c-bacc-442447e09e47&crid=264KXMXX9CUZ0&cv_ct_cx=colored%2 Bepoxies&keywords=colored%2Bepoxies&pd_rd_i=B0C377 7Y7T&pd_rd_r=4b2d0df2-8557-4f7c-b84b-0a20f5b1adfa&pd_rd_w=DkmMA&pd_rd_wg=d0N2H&pf_rd_p= 6b4b6d33-3832-496c-bacc-442447e09e47&pf_rd_r=B4MBT9YY5QS75N6ZD38T&qid=1748 691732&sbo=RZvfv%2F%2FHxDF%2BO5021pAnSA%3D%3D&spre fix=colored%2Bepoxies%2Caps%2C143&sr=1-3-6024b2a3-78e4-4fed-8fed-e1613be3bcce-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9zZWFyY2hfdGhlbWF0a WM&th=1Last edited by leehljp; 05-31-2025, 05:46 AM.Hank Lee
Experience is what you get when you don't get what you wanted!

The color change of the original rest started early on and has just progressed to the present. It doesn't seem to have affected the strength of the pour though, just the appearance.Jim Frye
