Aurora Borealis out tonight (Fri. May 10th)

My daughter in N Central Arkansas texted the family (about 18 of us) with some pictures of the Aurora Borealis (red) a few minutes ago, just before 10 PM. Then, my daughter in N. Dallas texted a couple of picts from there. It had to be done with the flash off, or course, but it was easier to pick up with the phone camera. Of course the (my) naked eye could tell it was there. Up in N Central Arkansas it was vivid. Then My daughter in Springfield MO sent some great pictures.

From Dallas to Tunica, MS (30 miles south of Memphis) to Springfield MO.

Tunica, looking over my shop through the trees, the red was obvious but not as clear as my daughters in AR and MO.

Yes, there are some extreme solar CME flares, biggest since 2003 I heard. Aurora Borealis expected to be visible in the Northern half of the US Friday near midnight.

Like with the great solar ecclipse, I'm here in NY's southern tier, absolutely clouded over!

Maybe tonight, fhe forecast is for only 'mostly cloudy'.

the solar flare was 2 days ago, likely its well over and there's no more aurora to see, at least at lower latitudes.
I regret not looking Friday night... the new reports initially said it would be visible in the northern half of the US, I figured in south Texas I had no chance and I didn't even look. Turned out it was visible in Houston area. Should have looked.
