IN the past the week, I have caught "Mis-Charges" three times in local stores. I am not one with the ability to read numbers as though they are words like a few geniuses can, but I can ballpark (in my head) a receipt within a dollar for anything over $20, and less than $.25 for for items under a $20. This has led me to 3 "catches" this past week.
1. at a farm and home store, a young lady put out some 14 oz lithium grease tubes on a special display for $1.79 that were normally $2.59. I looked at them as she finished up the display and picked up 5. She went to the counter and checked me out. I thought the final price was about $2.00 too high and then checked the pricing on the slip - The computer cash register had not been changed to reflect the price, so when scanned it charged the full price. I was charged $2.59 each. I told her and she looked and was surprised and somewhat embarrassed. She re-processed my card. AS I finished up, she went to the office report the difference. But I wonder if it was intentional by office personnel/manager.
2. Yesterday afternoon, I stopped at a food market and saw some large candy bars on sale at 2 for $5.00. I was charged $6.00 for the two. I made a comment to the checker and he said it was $3.00 each. I told him the sign said "Any Candy in this area will be $2 for $5". He went and looked and then refunded me the $1.00 plus tax.
3. Today, I went to a fast food chicken "restaurant???" and bought the 2 piece combo for $8.29. He charged me $9.79. I asked him if the local town suddenly increased the sales taxes. He said No, Why? I told him that $8.29 with state and local taxes should bring the total to about $9.04 or 5. He looked at it and said "I entered what you ordered and $9.79 is what it says. I told him the sign says $8.29 for the 2 piece Combo. He got the manager and the manager looked at me a little funny and shook his head. Then he charged me the correct $9.04 pricing.
How much are we being taken for in pennies on the dollar so that we don't notice. It is aggravating to me. I notice those things and just wonder how many people do not.
