"Oops, sorry, we did not think people use our products for anything important".
This summarizes Google's attitude completely. Google is a company paid by advertisers. Customers are people who pay for services they use. That means that companies that advertise via Google are google customers. People who use free google products (like gmail, youtube, etc) are not customers. Google uses those people to sell services to advertisers, which means people using free google services are a product, not a customer. Everything google makes shows this attitude. If you have Android phone - same thing. Every time Google releases software update - all your settings get wiped out. My son had Android phone - now he uses Apple. My wife used Android phone - switched away. I would never get myself a Google phone. I have gmail account but I only use it for spam collection. It helps me keep accounts I really use free from spam. Thank you, Google.
