I know that you are supposed to check your tire pressure when cold (before being driven). However, that got me wondering if the ambient air temperature has any significant effect upon the pressure reading. Would I see much difference between checking the tires at 45º, as opposed to 80º?

This is one of the things that has always bothered me. I park my car in the garage in the winter where it is usually around 60 degrees. As soon as I back outside, the temperature could drop by as much as 80 degrees. I also check the tire pressure in the garage ... because I don't want to do it outside when it's -20.

Every year when the temps get below 50 it sets off my Low tire light. Go check the tires and they are all lower by 2-4 PSI. get them back to 35 PSI and they are good unless ita drop lower. When it is really cold I don't bother, as soon as the vehicle is drive awhile it resets. Don't have the problem with our Expedition as it has Nitrogen not air doesn't seem to affected. Just serviced the Wife's Mini Cooper and rotated the tires they were all down 3 psi so put back to 35 PSi. The care has TPMS but the sensors are on the Original Tires and Rims haven't bothered to to change them into the other set yet, don't want have to rebalance them.
