Re-stocking pilgrimage

I was able to make. Re-stocking pilgrimage to Woodcraft and Rockler in Atlanta ( I think it is listed as Sandy Springs area) this weekend. The first stop was Woodcraft where they were having a dovetail demonstration, that guy was good, people everywhere, buying stuff. Lots of excitement. The parking lot was full of customers coming and going. The next stop was Rockler a few more miles down the road. This place was deserted, 4 employees standing behind the counter and one or two customers milling around. What's going on? Their prices are about the same, stores about the same, merchandise about the same and the locations seem about the same, both stores seem to have friendly, highly qualified employees. Gosh, I hate to see one store beat out another, especially when I like them both!

Interesting. I always preferred Rockler to Woodcraft, for some intangible reasons, and when the local Woodcraft closed, I assumed it was universal. Would be interesting to compare their sales and market share.

The only Rockler I have visited is the one in Phoenix (whenever I visit my brother there), so I am not aware - do they have the classes that Woodcraft have? I think having workshop sessions, seminars, classes are always a great draw. Something like a forum for people to meet.

Of course, now I don't have any local store to go to, so there's that.
