    back in the saddle

got up Saturday ---- ran some errands ---- then walked into my garage-based shop and thought "dang - I ought to make something"

Looked around some --- noticed that my sand paper is not very organized ---- so got out a bunch of scrap wood that I cut out of some wooden planks - and made myself a sand paper organizer.

Nothing fancy --- just enough to do the job.

Fun part --- cutting dado cuts into the sides, so the plywood shelves fit.

Took a couple of hours of dinging around (could have done it in 30 minutes - but decided to be thorough).

End of the day --- the sand paper is organized.

Sorry - no photos, at the moment ---- but man it felt good to get something done.

Glad to hear it, and looking forward to seeing a photo. I keep thinking about making one, and don't think I have room anymore for more than this plastic folder organizer thing I got from Sears, so would like to see your design.

I walked into the shop yesterday and said, "dang, I oughta clean this sty up" - but then just created more mess by cutting bowl blanks from some fresh camphor root (yes, root - about 12in diameter!) I just inherited. Whole place smells like I used Vicks as a surface protectant. But MAN are my sinuses clear!

Yes, sand paper organizer photo please!

12" camphor root? Once you are done looking forward to seeing photos from the finished bowl(s) too, Bill!

not pretty ----- shadows make it look funky ----- it is square.

Everyting from a pallet that I grabbed in the back of a local furniture store.

Good for you. I think that's the best sand paper organizer I've seen in a long time. Mine is buried in the shop..

Looks good! I could free up a drawer full of boxes of sanding disks with one of those mounted on the wall...

Good idea. That is a good granddaughter project. I'll keep that in mind! My sandpaper is scattered all over the place. Could you describe the bottom and top pieces?

The planks on the wooden pallet were 3"

I joined the planks together with a 3/8" piece of scrap ---- you can see by the grain that it's some really cheap pine ----- but it did the trick. (the structure of the pallets was pine lumber).

The top and bottom is just scrap pine.

I was going to rabett the back and put some plywood on it - but everything's open, right now. (you'll see the "bottom" is about 1/8" shorter).
