I tried round over some Jabota, **** thing broke even with a light pass. That Jabota is just to hard a wood. I will get one of the 13 watt CFL's and try a spiral cut.
Of course, Tom, I had to buy the 3- piece set, it was cheaper, only $5 a bit and it comes with two spiral (upcuts, apparently) and a large dovetail bit for fancy joinery and boxes.
And you're right, they are best suited for light work. Dark woods like Jatoba and walnut are less suited than light woods like maple or ash (obviously).
Have you tried the new Light Emitting Diode router bits? They cost a bit more up front, but they last a lot longer and are cheaper overall. and I'm LED to believe they are better.
