anyone know if adapters are available to convert male cat 5 cable ends to rg6 male ends? i want to connect an older vcr to my led tv, which has an rg6 input for viewing old vcr tapes of the family. extra cat 5 cables are buried in walls and ceilings from the AV closet to the wall mounted tv. no wires show anywhere in the living space and that's mandatory.
cat 5 to rg6

its not going to work all that well. Physically mating is one thing but matching impedances is another. You are going from 100 ohm differential to 75 ohm single ended coax. You're going to get ghosts and smear unless you have some matching baluns. Most of the common cheap baluns you're going to find are 300 ohm to 75 which is not the one you would need.Loring in Katy, TX USA

Here's what you need. Probably not cheap - it's industrial professional equipment.

one of these:
1421000 = CATV balun, F male, RJ45 wiring 4+/5-
1421070 = CATV balun, F male, RJ45 wiring 8+/7-
1421001 = CATV balun, F female, RJ45 wiring 4+/5-
1421071 = CATV balun, F female, RJ45 wiring 8+/7-
If you terminate your RG6 in BNC instead of F, there's a lot more choices, but its still industrial stuff, not consumer so its probably expensive.Last edited by LCHIEN; 12-21-2013, 11:48 AM.Loring in Katy, TX USA
