    Question For Mac Users

I have been uploading lots of pictures to my Mac and they come up named "img(number).jpeg". I have been changing the names to organize them a little better( ie: "holiday[number].jpeg). This is tedious doing it one at a time. Is there a way to rename them as a batch and have the computer automatically add the number sequence( I name the first file as #1 and the computer will number the rest with the chosen file name). I recall doing this with my old PC and hoped that the Mac can do the same.

    Thanks friends.

Sorry, can't help on a MAC, but those looking to do this on Windows is CNTL+A to select all, then right click on one and rename. It will do exactly as you want to do on the MAC. I would have to believe you would be able to do that on the MAC.

EDIT, quick Google search gives this among others:

Doesn't appear to be as simple as the Windows batch rename.

Do a Google search for "Search & Replace Mac"

            http://search-and-replace.en.softonic.com/mac

Direct it to your specific folder, tell it to search for IMG and then replace all instances with new name. I believe you can also rename with sequential numbers.

I use IrfanView to do batch renaming, and it works great, but I just looked, and it appears it is not available for the Mac. What about doing the batch renaming on a PC (assuming you still have one), and transfer to a Mac via Dropbox?

A little off-topic, but we I use Dropbox to share files with work, and all our home machines. And my wife and I have it on our iPhones for automatic uploads of pictures so they can be shared from any of our PCs, or from anywhere I can log onto the internet. I am up to 4.5GB of free space. I keep thinking of buying a 100GB account, but I keep getting extra space for free, likely from all the signups I've done..

In iPhoto, first select the pics you want to rename, then under the "Photos" menu, select "Batch Change…" In the dialog box select "Select title to text," then fill in the text entry box and check the "Append a number to each photo" checkbox.

                    That should do it.

Great tip on renaming in iphoto, if you'd like a way to batch rename in the finder:

Enable the scripts menu (lots of useful macros in there):

                      http://thepoch.com/tumblr/enable-the...-menu-bar.html

Then you can select a group of files in a folder, select the "Finder Scripts" from the scripts menu.

From there you can rename, and append your files quite nicely.

                      Merry Christmas
