just in from Carole (Mrs. Rod Kirby)

    Hello Loring

Thanks so much for emailing. Rod is doing well, thank you. He has come through the surgery well and the surgeons are pleased with his progress. It ended up being 8 hours and not the 5 first mentioned so it was a bit of a stressful time.
He was moved to the ward from ICU about 1pm on Wednesday - still fairly heavily sedated. He stills seems very comfortable and accepting of what has happened. We are told it will take him three to six months to adjust psychologically to the loss of his bladder when he comes home – it certainly does not seem to be worrying him at the moment. He is expected to be in hospital for at least another eight to ten days. Today he is allowed to have unlimited fluids but still no solid food.

Loring I would really appreciate if you would let the others on the forum know how Rod is doing please as this was not one of the things he told me how to access. We so appreciate the caring that you have all expressed. Thank you.

We have such lovely memories of the time we spent in Houston when Rod met you and your friends.

    Best wishes
    Carole

Thanks for posting that, Loring. It's great knowing he's doing well. He seems to have a good frame of mind, and that should help in recovery.

Thanks for the update and for posting Carole's note. Hopefully Rod is back home soon and will be posting himself. I (and everyone else, I am sure) wish him a full and speedy recovery.

                      Loring -

Thanks for taking the initiative to see that Rod and his family know that we are all pulling for him. And also for sharing his wife's response. This is a great forum.

Good to hear Rod is doing well after the surgery. I'm betting the 3-6 month psych adjustment is more than Rod will need!

I am glad he survived and is doing well!! Life without a bladder..... The things you never contemplate. I hope he adjust well and that this doesn't limit him from continuing to live life to its fullest.
