    Mixed emotions.

I grew up in the Chesapeake Bay region. My college offered sailing classes for PE credit (I took windsurfing, small boat sailing, and keel boat sailing for a perfect sailing program ---- then worked a season on a 50 foot Gulfstar charter boat).

The speed these boats hit (40 knots) is amazing ----- we used to get excited about reaching 15 knots! With speeds like that, you could sail the Maryland Governor's cup in just a few hours (it took us overnight).

This race is really between Ellison and Maktoum (the billionaires that are footing the bills --- and fussing about all kinds of silly crap).

I love sailing ---- but only to a point.

I'd rather be out in the open water - with my genoa fully out ---- on a broad reach destined for Marigot Bay.

Oracle kicked butt. They were flying Beautiful day over on the bay. Wonder what Ellison will come up with next.

Link to see the last race:

        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHdmv...cOObnqywOkRzYl

The video is two+ hours long, the race part only about 20 minutes, if you want to skip all the hype, you want to fast forward to about 2 minutes before the race starts - they'll show the countdown clock.. it looks like that's about 13:00 minutes into the video. Have good sound and a big screen... you can hear the boats groaning under the load of the sails and taking/jibing. Man they go fast...

watch About 20 seconds into the race as Oracle nearly bury themselves as they round the 1st mark...

I've not watched sailing of any kind since Dennis Connor was racing (late 80's?), didn't understand much then and haven't learned anything about sailing since.
That said, I just watched the last race...wow. Truly amazing stuff both from a technology standpoint and from a 'we aren't giving up' standpoint. What an outstanding effort.
We recently moved to Corpus Christi and my wife has mentioned wanting to learn how to sail, maybe this will spur me to go ahead.
          Cheers,
          Russel
