    Wood inlay - Italy

just got back from a Mediterranean Cruise. In Sorrento Italy I saw a store that sells wood inlay items - some gorgeous ones. I got the rooster.

here's some pictures of the work they showed and techniques they use.

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.

They are all beautiful works of art, and I too would not be able to pass up the rooster if I saw it either. Nice score, I hope you hang it somewhere tasteful in the kitchen

if you look closely at the rooster tray, the background of figured maple is interlocked jigsaw puzzle-like pieces, so the entire thing is intarsia, not just the rooster part.

Do they use powered scroll saws to do this? Are the pieces terribly expensive? How are they shipped? Sorry for so many questions - but just wondering.

they claim to use the hand scroll saw pictured.
Stuffs not cheap. Some of the tables were thousands of Euros. (1 Euro = ~1.40 USD)
They'll ship it to you. Packing, shipping and insurance is included for purchases above some amount, maybe 150 Euros.
