    Speaking of streaming TV

Have you found anything that you would highly recommend? For me, it would be Ken Burns' Civil War. If you're not familiar with Ken, he produced quite a few documentaries, and I haven't found one that didn't keep my interest. But back to the Civil War ------ this is a real eye opener. It's hard to imagine how much damage they were able to do that long ago! And when you watch it, you'll feel like you're part of it. Highly recommended for everyone.
Edit: this is free with Amazon prime.

Do you know about kickback? Ray has a good writeup here... https://www.sawdustzone.org/articles...mare-explained

I've recently watched all of Star Trek TNG and DS9 via Amazon, and I'm struggling to get through Enterprise. Top Gear (BBC) is a favorite of mine. I also have Fringe on my watchlist to get around to, I bailed halfway through the first season.

The PBS Channel on Roku has some gems I've never heard of. I hope at one point I can find some compelling History Channel stuff - not the stuff they air now, but what they came up as.
I have a little blog about my shop

I wasn't able to catch it when it aired on History Channel, so World War 2 in HD is a pretty good documentary series. I was able to find it, and stream it via Youtube.

While they change their lineup from time to time, Netflix every now and then has the various Steven King based movies / miniseries. I recently watched "The Stand" and Langoliers...

I own the entire M*A*S*H series, including the movies, and specials, on DVD, and have them ripped and encoded to mp4 and have them on my DLNA server so I can stream them to my TVs...

For what it's worth, my Netgear NeoTV has been okay, a bit slow response wise, but certainly a LOT less of a hassle than using a PS3 as a streaming media player...

I would hate to give up Public Broadcasting ! (PBS) Their are so many good programs on the three channels that They offer The woodworking in itself would be bad for Me to loose! I am afraid that We could loose it if more people do not help support it.

My Roku doesn't support the new PBS channel so that's a bummer.

On Netflix, I recently discovered the Longmire series (about a Wyoming sheriff) and Jack Taylor (Irish PI). Really liked them. They were short series, though.

I also started watching Fringe (never really watched XFiles but seems similar)

For Sci-Fi TV series, I enjoyed Firefly and Terra Nova, both available on Netflix. One disappointment with both series is they were canceled after the first season and didn't wrap up their story lines completely.

I use over-the-air TV, an older Roku box and am hooked up to the Minneapolis wi-fi system via fiber-optic ($25/month for 15 Mbps!).

I dumped my land-line and ported my old phone number to Google Voice. I use an Obihai 110 box back-wired to get the land-line distributed thru the house phone wiring. I get local 911 coverage for 80 cents a month from a service recommended by Obihai (Anveo).

By getting rid of Comcast and Centurylink I'm saving $70 a month.

Th following articles were very helpful:

BTW, I solved the 'computer in the shop' dilemma with an Azpen 7" tablet ($50 last Black Friday sale at OfficeMax). I stream Pandora and 'Net surf and never have to worry about dust in the electronics.
You might think I haven't contributed much to the world, but a large number
of the warning labels on tools can be traced back to things I've done...

My phone is similarly set up but using the Obi 100 instead of the 110. My in building telephone wiring was damaged prior to me buying the house, so I am, as weather is cool enough to work in the attic, running fresh lines using Category 5e cable (I have a bunch of the stuff) and terminating using a Steren FastHome telephone hub...

There is a very real possibility that my Obi100 might get updated to an Obi200 in order to support a second line for my Fax. This has been a fairly interesting year health wise for me, and Doctors aren't real happy about the idea of sending records / documents via email, but they are good with a private fax..

+1 although I saw it when it originally aired on PBS.

Some movies I would have never found on my own at Redbox or at a local video store--Twilight Samurai, Hari Kari, 13 Assassins. I was on a samurai movie kick.
