    3rdrevolution.com?

    anyone seen this 3rdrevolution.com website?
    https://www.3rdrevolution.com/woodwo...gn=woodworking

Claims to be for showing woodworking projects but they don't let you in without registering first to see what kind of stuff they have. A bit leery about joining more sites these days and leery about sites that won't show you what they have. Heck even pay porn sites have free samples (or so I've heard) before joining.

I have an entire email address for just that purpose. Oh, and I live on the West Coast and make over $500,000 a year with no visible means of support.

Fine Woodworking is like that...need to sign up. I'm leery about giving out info, not wanting junk mail or spam, to say the least.

Sounds like a "work for hire" clause, meaning once you complete the work, they own it.*

"The license you grant to <website> is non-exclusive (meaning you are free to license your Content to anyone else in addition to <website>), fully-paid and royalty-free, transferable and sub-licensable (so that <website> may use third party service providers for hosting and content delivery networks), and worldwide. Unless you have shared your Content with others, and they have not deleted it, this license will terminate at the time you remove your Content from the Services, but you understand and agree that your Content may continue to appear on the Sites or Websites after you remove it from the Services as portion of your Content may remain on pages cached by third parties, incorporated into RSS feeds, User profiles or other features, or archived on servers."

Not unusual. This license to use material you post does not release or transfer your ownership of your content and is not exclusive, so does not encumber your rights to further use your own content for whatever purposes you choose, including licensing elsewhere for royalty purposes; and appears this licensee can make money using your content without having to pay you royalties. HOWEVER, terminating the usage license by removing your content doesn't appear to be enforceable given the "understanding we may still have and use your content" clause. You just have to be comfortable not retaining exclusive rights to your posted content.

That clause and condition seems to be pretty normal for at least commercial forums and boards. Pretty much whenever you post to a board, they "own" the content, or at least that's my understanding from reading the T&C.

For example, from another popular woodworking board:
"You agree that * is granted the right to unrestricted use and publication of any content or material posted by you in the Forum, including the right to publish, edit, create derivative works based thereon and otherwise distribute such content, both internally and commercially. In furtherance thereof, you also authorize *, in its sole discretion, to identify you by name and hometown in connection with the publication by it of any content provided by you."

That's not bad. Add a night at a Holiday Inn Express, and you're good to go.

                      Digressed a little here..

You can sign in with your facebook account. If you do this, you'll get 2 pop-ups requesting permission. Allow the first one, skip the second one about posting to your friends. At least thats what I did.

You can deny access later if you dont like it.
