You Traded A What For A What?

Over the years I've traded one thing for another. What I had seemed a worthwhile trade for what the other guy had. As an example, I traded the fabrication and installation of a very small kitchen base cabinet and countertop in a MIL addition for a like new two stage 80 gallon Ingersoll Rand compressor. At the time, things were slow for me, and the guy that had the compressor had closed his auto body shop. He stored it at home in his garage, and needed to get rid of it. For me it was a couple of days work and materials already in stock. He had no need for the compressor, and needed to make his MIL happy. The trade worked out great for both of us.

If you had some interesting trades, were they good deals or bad?

We're trying to potty train our older daughter right now. I trade her a #2 in the potty for a lollipop. #1s earn some jellybeans.

Nothing specific, but my neighbor is a contractor. He keeps my AC up and running as well as some electrical help/advice. Sometimes it is an outright payment for services, but often there is a trade for woodworking or woods that he wouldn't normally use in his business.

        Can she be selective?

I do have some real trades.

My property line extends just 6' behind my house. We have large side yards, but one side is the garage and the other side is fairly exposed to the street and doesn't get good sunlight. The good sunlight for a garden is in the back.

The first "trade" was with my neighbor, also a gardener. I asked her if we could put some raised beds behind our garage which would extend onto her property. No problem, she said. In return she asked me to build some raised beds in her yard and she provided the materials. If we ever move, I'll take them out.

Don't remember if it was the same season or the next season, her "Alzheimer's Dad" (her words) was staying with her for several months. She didn't want him to wander outside the fence but she always propped open her fence gate which had become ratty. She bought the hardware and wood and offered to pay me money to rebuild the gate. In lieu of money, I asked if I could park my push mower and gas can in her garage (she never locks it). She agreed and for 2 seasons, I was able to keep it there until she cleaned house and needed the space back, and I had more mobility in the shop. The mower lives in a small plastic shed now.

I really do like bartering a lot vs using cash. I have always felt less buyer's remorse when not using cash.

I've passed that suggestion on to LOML. She doesn't need it yet, but I'M not nearing that age and i happen to like both lollipops and jellybeans!!

Most recently, I swapped (gave to in trade for them purchasing for me) a small array of old 10/100 ethernet switches, category 5e patch cables, 12 port keystone patch panel and keystones for my 16 port category 6 patch panel and 7u relay rack.

I swapped a cleaned up dumpster find Delta 10" miter saw for my NIB Central Machinery mortiser.

I swapped a mess of clean PT pine 5/8"x6"x6' dog ear fence pickets (salvage from Hurricane Ike) for labor helping clean up.

I swap labor for labor pretty often actually...

Back in the late 80's I traded 90BF of Mahogany for an older Unisaw, with a right side table and a 50" Biesemeyer.
