I have DirecTV, and probably watch too many shows. But if yo have Netflix, there's plenty of good shows available.

    -House of Cards
    -Breaking Bad
    -Everybody Love Raymond
    -**** on Wheels
    -Sherlock (BBC Series)
    -Parks and Recreation
-Battlestar Galactica (the first few seasons are great, last couple are OK)
-Doctor Who (I prefer the David Tennant seasons, but the most recent one isn't too bad either)
    -Louie
-Seinfeld (maybe not on Netflix, but it's my favorite show)
    -Pushing Daisies

    Current shows I'd reccomend
    -Big Band Theory
    -Shameless
    -Game of Thrones
    -Nurse Jackie
    -Dexter
-You already said Homeland, but I'm listing it anyway because it's awesome
-The Americans (It's off to a pretty good start)
    -The Walking Dead

Got rid of DISH- tired of paying for a whole lot of programs I didn't want just to get the few I did.

Have had Amazon Prime for several years to save on books, tools, shipping, then one day I got a message from them about offering movies & TV programs commercial free ABSOLUTELY FREE to all Prime members.

I watch some movies, TV- "24", "The Closer", "Fringe", "Foyles War" etc.

      Never miss DISH.

Although I don't follow the schedule, I'll always watch "Cool Japan" on NHK World if it pops up.

Sports, Sportnews,Baseball,Football,Nascar,IRL,SCCA,Game of Thrones,The Following,Deception,Revenge, anything on PBS like Nova, American Restoration American Pickers,Jeopardy,,Zero Hour, lots of movies from Redbox as we have movie nights on Tues together . I get my laughs off Bill Maher and Foxnews, live realtime news off CNN. McNeil/Laher, don't watch all the BS reality shows.Find that PBS offers the most bang for the buck after sports and if something catches my interest we have Infinity on Demand so I can always watch shows from yrs past back to back to catch up if I have a rainy day or the legs just killin me to much to do anything,(much like today thanks to the cold rain)

I watch a lot of discovery and history channels programs. Always amazed at the stuff they come up with to produce. Some quite interesting.
Otherwise, we DVR the popular sitcoms and watch when we have a few minutes.

I don't usually like Reality TV shows but for the life of me, I could not stop watching "Duck Dynasty" on A&E. Something about that show that makes me laugh out loud.

Sporting events and some shows on PBS. That's it. Gave up on the crap they call entertainment shows quite a few years ago. If I truly want to watch a show I'll get the stream off of HULU.

No wonder providers don't offer a-la-carte choices of channels instead of the bundles today. If allowed most of us would subscribe to just 4 or 5 channels and forget about the rest! I wish that could be...

The problem with bundles, if one of your favorites are in a bundle, you have no choice but to subscribe to it, even though you may not watch any of the other channels in that bundle.

We have an old DirectTV DVR and record our favorites. That way we can fast-forward through commercials. What we watch together is

Suits: USA network. Short seasons but very good.
                      NCIS
                      Blue Bloods
                      Big Bang Theory
                      Modern Family

I record and watch a lot of
                      How it's made
                      How do they it
                      Factory made

I don't record them, but that's the core of my line-up when they're on at bedtime (my 10 minutes of daily TV).

Thanks for bringing this up Radhak--this thread prompted me to call our current sat service after pricing the other one's comparable package. I explained that we'd been there 4 years and their new customers pay less for 2 years, have no $10/month charge for HD, and get whole-house DVR while we get one room. They offered to drop the $10 HD fee, no upgrade to whole house without a fee.

Their competitor will be here Saturday morning and we'll save $39/month for 12 months, $11/month for the next 12, plus 7% sales tax--$642 over 2 years. In addition, we'll have 3 HD connections (instead of 2 HD and 1 SD), whole house DVR (one room now), and twice the DVR storage. I didn't line the channels up side by side, just made sure Discovery, History, H2, Science and Food were there. Close enough. Weather is weather, so when that interferes (has been surprisingly rare) it's not selective of one carrier over another.

We'll still be paying more than i think it's worth, but if i can watch DVR in the bedroom--How it's Made can put me sleep every night. It'll take a week to stay awake long enough to watch a full episode!!!

If you get BBC America as part of your cable package, you have to sample the British Top Gear - it's almost addictive for those interested in automotive entertainment.

Other than that, live, NCIS and Big Bang Theory - the rest recorded on DVR and watched when time is available.

I hardly watch tv anymore. I have watched many of the shows mentioned before, How its made, Nat Geo, dirt jobs, mythbusters, walking dead, breaking bad, etc. but I have fallen out of the t.v. habit a few years ago and don't have any one show that I follow. I read more, which I guess fills in that void.

That is an enjoyable show. It's nice seeing the cars that I'll never drive(LOL). Richard Hammond has another show, Crash Course , where he is travelling across America looking for the "dream" job. Kind of like "Dirty Jobs", with out all the dirt.

There's only one show that I really watch and that's Arrow. Other than that I may watch the odd mini series if I have read the book already and car racing.
