    sigh.... something MUST be wrong

I received a $100 Gift Cert to HD for Christmas.

Today's a little slow around here - so I picked up my GC and drove to the big Orange.

Walked around for 15-20 minutes (I know the tool aisle really well), picked up a box of sanding discs for my ROS, and left ---- total damages was $10.

Looked at a few router bits (they had a decent dovetail bit on sale for $7.99) --- but really didn't see squat that I wanted to buy.

I suppose I could have picked up a few clamps - but the HD aren't inspiring.

One question --- anyone here ever use a Bora Edge guide?

I use my BT for most things ---- but there's a few tasks that work better (cross-cutting on long boards) with a straight edge.

Free money like that is often hard to spend. The last thing you want to do is waste it, which seems completely backward but it's true.

those edge guides in general are quite nice. I've not used the Bora but have several similar makes. Solves the problems of setting up a fence without having the clamps to hold it to the table or workpiece sticking up and keeping from moving the cutting tool or otherwise getting in the way.

Great for use as a guide fence with the circular saw or handheld router.
Also great for using as a temporary/fast setup, low profile router table fence, bandsaw fence, drill press fence.

Altho you can adjust the movable jaw anywhere along the length, having a real long overhang is not usually good. So you probably "need" a 50 incher and a 24-27 incher.

100 incher if you regularly "rip" sheets of plywood and a 36-42 incher is good for router table and DP table where a 24-incher might be too short. Tat'll eat up your $100 card.

on the other hand, a good old fashioned sawboard is a cheap and easy alternative.

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.

Gift cards make for good gifts if where they are good is of interest. If you had received a Visa gift card, the purchaser of it laid out the same amount, but you could spend it anywhere. My wife received a gift card for Walmart...she hates that store.

The edge guides are very convenient as long as you use them prudently. They are just a temporary guide, not a fence. It's possible for them to get dislodged. Used as intended, they are very handy.

I've not used the Bora, but i picked up a set of these http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?p...3&site=ROCKLER about a year ago. $80 now, i think i paid around $50--it was a cheap enough to take a shot. I use them more than i thought i would and they have worked well for their purpose. At some point i'd like to add another 24" and 36". I keep thinking about picking up the saw and/or router guide--probably will some day.

My "Christmas List" used to include Home Depot, but I find less and less reason to go there anymore. Seems everytime I look for something in HD, they are either out of it, know nothing about it, no longer carry it, or it is damaged. So the visits end up being just an exercise in frustration.

Gift cards are a great "gift" though and I always appreciate them. Thankfully, our area got a HF store a couple of years ago. Now if only they would get something like Woodcraft in our area!

Regarding your clamp/guide. I have the HF 50" guide. It may not be exactly like the Bora, but it works fine for my limited needs and right now it's priced at $20. ( http://www.harborfreight.com/50-inch...ide-66581.html )

I will only cut "sheet goods" with a circular saw and a "factory edge". I have an 18-V circular saw and my "edge" is marked for using either it or my old corded Craftsman circular. Once cut down to size, only then can I manage them thru my BT.
