    hitchikers guide to the Galaxy

I have never seen this movie. Altho I gather it has some cultish following.

Netflix has two: Which one do I want to see, the 1981 British BBC TV series

or the 2005 Movie? starring Cast:Martin Freeman, Mos Def, Sam Rockwell, Zooey Deschanel, Warwick Davis, Alan Rickman, John Malkovich, Bill Nighy, Anna Chancellor, Bill Bailey, Su Eliott, Stephen Fry, Richard Griffiths, Dominique Jackson

I think you meant "Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy". I like the BBC series from the 1980's personally, but the 2005 version has better special effects. In addition to the BBC hitchiker series/movie, they also did "Restaurant at the end of the universe".

+1 re: woodturner's comments. The BBC series hews closer both to the original radio series, and to the books. I think the movie loses a lot of the quirkiness of British humor (or, ahem, "humour") in the BBC series, in an effort to make more Hollywood-palatable.

I think that a lot of Douglas Adams genius comes out in the digressions and turn of phrase, much of which is lost in the later movie. To get the full flavour (?!), by all means, read the books. BTW, I'm a real fan, in case it isn't obvious

            Which One

The 2005 film version is ok. But the original TV series is the best one in my opinion. Hope you enjoy whichever you choose.

Definitely go with the BBC version. The effects are a little better with the hollywood one( it's newer ) but the story is so much better in the original that you don't even really notice.

You guys keep mentioning effects, remember the better TV series was done with a less budget, 25? years prior, after having a very popular radio stint.

While I agree the tv series is MUCH better, shouldn't the answer here, be 42?

Just a note, from what I've been told, the "hollywood" script was mostly written by Douglas Adams himself. and- Adams specifically made changes for each format- book, TV, Radio, and Film.

So when you say the radio version is different from the TV version, which is different from the film version, that's by design.

I just thought that was interesting that Adams was forward-thinking when it came to how his IP should be handled.
