I was curious to look/listen at/to a pair. looked at the Sennheiser website last nite, only a few US dealers carry the HD598 so you are unlikely to find them at the local audio salon. Amazon, J&R are the names I recognize and they are mostly on-line presences, the others (4 or 5) I've never heard of.

Best Buy and Brands Mart both carry some of the Sennheiser headphones. You might call them to see if the model you want is available through them.

Thanks guys, don't give it much more thought, I was just interested to see why these things were so expensive. If I happen to see a counterpart, I will try them on and listen to some familiar tunes and report back. As I have said I am really pleased with my lowly HD202's
