argh need parallel interface ATAPI Lightscribe DVD writer

I use an older computer to copy and label DVDs
Equipped with a DVD RW and a DVD R/w with Lightscribe (disk image writing)
Two DVD drives allows not having to swap disks in the middle of the process.
A few months ago the lightscribe function went dead.
Since this computer has no SATA, only ATAPI Parallel interfaces, I had to find a replacement drive. If it were in stock it would run about $70-80, not the usual $20 or so. I couldn;t find any and had to buy a used one off ebay for about $25.

Fast forward to this month and the DVD read/write has failed altho it still does the lightscribe OK. So now I gotta find another replacement. None on ebay this week.

Anyone know where to find a PARALLEL interface (ATAPI, not SATA) Lightscribe equipped DVD Writer for reasonable price (Less than $30)?

Otherwise I will have to reinstall the DVD with broken lightscribe as the third device with D: Read/Write, E:Read/Write (non-functional lightscribe) and F:Lightscribe only (non-functioning DVD)

or use some SATA to ATAPI adapter and a SATA drive

I wouldn't buy an old Atapi drive, just get a pci adapter and buy a newer drive.

If you have a free pci slot on your motherboard then you can pick up something like this:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16815280003

And then if you need another drive you can buy sata which you can use in a new system if you get one.

If you have a free slot, why not just add an interface card? This one provides both SATA and IDE for $10.

Alternatively, there is an adapter on Amazon for $4.

Or you could just buy a replacement drive on Amazon for $40.

Loring, I don't know what timeframe you need it. I may have one in the workshop that you can have, but it will be a week or 2 before I get back out there and can search for it, I am trying to beat the snow and get our addition insulated and wired up.

iwshane and Woodturner, thanks, I didn't think of an adapter PCI card.

I looked at the SATA to PCI adapters, but they say you can only put one drive (as master) on a IDE cable that supports master slave, basically loosing support for the slave drive, if you have one.

With SATA, Master/Slave is irrelevent. You just get a PCI SATA card, plug a SATA burner (w/ LightScribe) into one of the SATA ports, load the device driver for the SATA card in Windows, and you're good-to-go.

I wouldn't bother with a PCI card that offers both SATA and parallel. You already have parallel on your motherboard. Those will continue to work. A SATA-only PCI card is all you need.

There are several listed, some of which don't seem to have the master/slave issue, such as this one http://www.amazon.com/HDE-SATA-Drive...bxgy_pc_text_y
