Speaking of video games and PC upgrades...

I was talking with a coworker and realized the games I like, for the most part I run in a VM, or DOS emulator with very few native games. My games of choice are...

    Quake 4 (Linux native)
    Quake 3 (Linux native)
Quake 2 (Running under a VM using an OLD distribution of Linux just to run the game natively).
    Soldier of Fortune. (Linux Native)
Return To Castle Wolfenstein Game of The Year Edition. Linux native.
    Unreal Tournament Linux Native
    Unreal 2003 Linux Native
    Redneck Rampage. DOS emulator
Redneck Rampage Suckin Grits on Route 66. DOS emulator

Okay so I like first person shooters.

This reads more like an incomplete thought, or a statement. Was there supposed to be a question?
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

My favorite games were the Sierra adventure games, i.e. King's Quest, Space Quest, and Hero's Quest (changed to Quest for Glory- but it'll always be Hero's Quest to me). Then there are the one-offs they did, like Robin Hood and Freddy Farkas Frontier Pharmacist. The games had a LOT of humor in them, most of it subtle. Hero's Quest was pretty cool, as I think it must have been one of the first games/ serie's to allow players to port their characters from a previous game to the next one in the series. Also, that game allowed you to play as different character classes, which offered a lot of replayability. Al Lowe was a big part of the writing for those games. I don't know anything else he's done, but I'll always remember him for his part in Sierra.

Then there's Civ 2 and Civ 3. Great games. But there's also the under-appreciated Colonization. That was a great game.

7th Guest was the first scary/ creepy game I ever played. That had amazing video capture (for it's time), and created a great/ uncomfortable atmosphere.

Also a great game for it's time was Under a Killing Moon. It was a detective mystery where players were able to walk around like a first person shooter, finding clues and questioning people. It had a dry sense of humor, and for it being acted by the creators of the game, it was really well done.

And lastly, I would have to say the most recent games I've loved most have been the Thief series and Deus Ex. Thief was great in that it's the first game where sound was a major component. I remember playing that game in my dorm room, in the dark, with my headphones on. That really immersed you into the world, which was important when I needed to know where people were and evade them. Good Story too.

Deus Ex was also a first person game, but it had the flexibility that you didn't have to just destroy everyone. You could either be a bad@ss fighter, or you could be stealthy and not kill anyone. The story line was great as well.

I'm really a voyeur when it comes to video games. I remember sitting in on several Quake/Doom matches in college with my roommates. I found it much more enjoyable to be a spectator.

I also get motion sick if I play those first person shooters. The up and down bobbing of the person walking around makes me queasy. I remember getting a PS2 (years after they were popular) and playing Grand Theft Auto before my wife got home--she told me not to buy one. I was so dizzy after 15 minutes that I just lay down on the couch and when she found me there when she got home and realized what I had been doing, she laughed and said, "I told you so."

I don't have time to play games now with 2 kids running around but when I did, I enjoyed playing Tiger Woods golf and God of War. I was just getting into Shadow of the Colossus.

She now wants to get a WII or an XBOX 360 with Kinect.

So how were you going to finish it? (I was thinking it was going to be a question, but couldn't figure out if it were what games one plays, or if that was an example to say, what hardware would you upgrade, games requirement)

EDIT: Had to go look up the name of one of the ones I enjoy (not enough time to play), Sacred 2 (Microsoft product and won't run under emulation )
Guild Wars I also have, and would like to see both Guild Wars 2 and Diablo 3.

Got a Wii at one of the Black Friday sales. Right now the kids could care less (28 month old and 14 month old) but mommy and daddy are having a blast with the dancing games!

Enjoy Paul! The kids will definitely use it in a couple of years. My two love the bowling and golf. Waltart is blowing it out for $89 a unit according to slickdeals.
