    Android Phone? Then read this

Here is some info on the exploit of Android phones where a web page can do nasty things to your phone, like wipe it clean.

    Lifehacker.com android exploit.

You get instructions on how to fix it too.

Or you can skip the story and go here: http://dylanreeve.com/phone.php to check your phone.

Luckily the update I downloaded last week patched this before it became common knowledge.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2

Thanks for the heads up and the link. LOML is updating as we speak (I mean as I'm typing this).

I just this year converted to a smart phone.... it just seemed so unsafe to use them to their potential. I only access my email from them and that is probably more information than I want being revealed on an unsecure device... Does anyone who uses an Android have any security and privacy tips? Every application you use seems to eavesdrop on you and your searches at home on google will show up on your phone if your signed in to google on home pc... creepy..

What did you expect? Google is a company whose main product is "Internet search". This product is free to you (the consumer) and paid for by advertisers. It means that Google is in business of collecting information about you and selling it to the highest bidder. Android is the natural extension of the same business model. Google provides Android OS for free just like its search and the entire OS is designed to spy on you so Google can sell your information.

The entire smart phone market makes me sick. Google has never been a "consumer goods" company and certainly cannot be a market leader in a consumer market for long. Apple makes a phone (as well as everything else) that is suitable for a particular segment of a consumer market but not for a broad audience. So smart phone market at this moment has nobody capable of being a real market leader. Blackberry was a good company but got in trouble when they missed the mark with non-corporate market. I am glad to see that their restructuring seems to be working. The smart phone market needs either blackberry to recover or somebody like Microsoft to take leadership.

What I expected Alex is that since I pay a monthly fee for service I would retain the rights to that service and not be used for marketing purposes. I am sure somewhere in the thousands of pages of disclosures there would be the fine print that states you have no privacy with our devices... such is why I hardly use any of the applications on the phone, have gps turned off, not that they cant narrow it down anyways by cell tower usage, don't use mobile banking or order anything using the phone.

Wait until cloud computing becomes more prevalent. Then, you'll really be sick as you won't even own your content...

It's important to remember that all of these phones have an off switch. I use it often.
