One of many pioneers and trailblazers who IMHO, shouldn't be listed as "American" hero's, but HUMAN hero's as one who took a step, that may have much LONGER term implications for our species.

not just the first man on the moon. he was the first human to ever touch a celestial body other than earth. FWIW, i always thought it was impressive that the first person to ever set foot on a panetary body other than earth was a civilian, and not a member of the military establishment.

Speaking from experience, very similar thoughts run through the minds of our men and women serving in the military and getting deployed to a foreign area of conflict.
