Neil Armstrong

[Cochese]

We often call things heroic, people heroes, events amazing. We lost someone today who was all those things, did all those things, and yet was more.

Seems we have lost allot of great people this year.

RIP Neil Armstrong

Space pioneer, true American hero who took that one giant leap for mankind - and of course, FIRST man on moon.

Rest in peace, Neil. We will miss you

One of many pioneers and trailblazers who IMHO, shouldn't be listed as "American" hero's, but HUMAN hero's as one who took a step, that may have much LONGER term implications for our species.

Thank you for what you did and how you still inspire people Mr. Armstrong!

not just the first man on the moon. he was the first human to ever touch a celestial body other than earth. FWIW, i always thought it was impressive that the first person to ever set foot on a panetary body other than earth was a civilian, and not a member of the military establishment.

a quiet, extremely impressive, geeky, white sock wearing, pocket protector using engineer who, in his own quiet way, through his actions, defined courage.

He was a US Navy pilot that served in the Korean War. It takes courage to do what he did. I'm thinking the day he packed whatever he was to take, and said his good-byes to loved ones and friends, to go into space he realized what he was about to do, and what benefit it may be to our country. There was also likely thoughts of not ever coming back.

Speaking from experience, very similar thoughts run through the minds of our men and women serving in the military and getting deployed to a foreign area of conflict.

was he on active duty in the navy or any other branch of the military when he went to the moon?
