    Diamondback In The House

First off, there wasn't time to take pictures, so if you want to reply NPDH, so be it. My wife found one of our cats playing with a small snake on the floor. She went into hysterics, and yelled out for me. I was on the throne at the time, so she got one of the translucent plastic bowls from the kitchen and dropped it over the snake.

It was in a tight coil just striking out. Couldn't tell how long it was, but it was a young one. When I got there told her to get a manilla folder. I slipped it under the bowl and scooped the snake inside so I could pick it up. I thought it was a black racer, which we have in abundance outside.

I carried it outside to let it go. When in the sunlight, I could see the pattern on its back, and brought it back into the house. My wife kept yelling to flush the thing down the toilet. So, since she is SWMBO, I did, and saw that it was about a foot long, maybe 16". I flushed a few times.

I then ran about 5 gallons of water down the toilet. We are on sewer, and she was worried that it may find its way back up. Since, she has checked the toilet before using. It was almost as exciting as when we got a loose bird in the house and the dogs and cats went wild.

Don't know about you, but I would never sit on that throne again, better to go to the foul gas station field camp down the road.

    Braver man than me.

      Mike, just hope

that you or SWMBO aren't sitting on the throne and that dude don't want to come up out of the water pit! Then again you could have done as that guy up in George (I think that's where it happened) got his shotgun and dispatched the ol' coiled up one. IIRC, it took 3 shots because he was nervous. Low and behold the snake's dead and the guy has to patch 3 shotgun blasts into his wooden floor of his trailer!
At least you got rid of it. (down here in Florida we have people that get bit by the little pigmy rattlers because they are so small.)

My solution would have been to burn the house down and rebuild.

That may be his wife's solution when she reads that since it was little, it may mean there is a nest somewhere close or under the house and they found a way up and in.
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

Wiki says if you are in the southeastern counties, you still have the timber rattlesnake and the massasauga.

At first I thought you meant a baseball player from Arizona.

I guess the little guy was too young to have his rattles?

Could it have been a "pygmy" rattler? I have read that they are quite common in many parts of Florida.

We had a neighbor who's son was bitten by one of those a few years ago when visiting one of the recreation parks down there. They went out walking at night in the park and he thought it was just something someone had dropped on the sidewalk and went to pick it up and got bit.

He came out okay, after getting right to the hospital.

We have rattlers in Painted Post, but fortunately none here in the Binghamton area.

I would call Rotor Rooter and have them run their snake down the throne.

The only snakes I fear are the ones I can't see. We do get snakes, but mainly black racers. Sometimes the cats will leave an offering on the deck. About 5 snakes to date. One Copperhead, three rattlers and a garter snake. Cats are fine, so they apparently know how to handle them. They have also caught lots of little lizards and moles. I can't get them to ferret out the armadillos though.
