reposted the picture hosted directly at BT3.
Got a Camera half for fun and half to see what's going on around my house.
Its a D-Link wireless webcam and it can be linked to the D-Link web site, and allow me to see live from the internet as well as e-mail me a picture(s) when something in parts of the video frame changes.
Like today I saw a cat and a Mr Sparky service truck... turns out he was working next door.
and then some guy came up to the door...
and this car makes a U-turn just about every day...

Good to know what is going on, and think about how to stop some of it.
I think you may be partly or wholly libel if a someone were hit by the person using your driveway as a U-Turn. I remember you posting about this. Time to think about your options again.Hank Lee

Even worse if the person they hit is me.
Not wild about the cars and headlights flashing through the front windows ten feet from my front door at all hours of the night, either. I now think i know who one of the offenders is, though.

Good detective work, Brian.
If Toonces is driving the U-turn car, just don't get in. It always ends the same.Last edited by jking; 03-13-2012, 06:32 AM.Comment

What camera is it, exactly? Is it outdoor weather rated? I'd like to get a camera for my alley/ garage, but I don't want one that records 24/7. Otherwise that's a lot of viewing each day- even on FF.Comment

I've always wanted a web enabled camera like Loring's but I couldn't justify the price at the time. The well reviewed ones were a couple hundred dollars. My wife's netbook had a built in camera and I found this freeware software that has the whole system act like a web enabled camera:
http://www.yawcam.com/
The software allows you to do live streaming for instant remote monitoring and also captures images to files when motion is detected. It has an added feature to join all those file together to make a movie.
It can also support multiple cameras so when I bought an inexpensive USB webcam, I could have 2 cameras going in 2 different directions.
I first used it to figure out who was stealing the tomatoes from my garden. Turned out to be the squirrels. Then I used it to figure out which of my 2 dogs was the one chewing on my furniture while we were at work. Turned out it was the one who likes to chase squirrels--go figure.
At work, I have one focused on one of the robots in the 2nd floor lab. I can keep an eye on it when I'm doing a production run from my cube on the 1st floor.
Just checked Amazon and the prices of cameras is sub $100 now. However, if you just want to dip your toe and you have a laptop and webcam, check out Yawcam.

http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-DCS-930.../dp/B00452V66G
there's also a 932 model with IR LEDs
has a screen divided into 16 blocks, you can check which blocks it will scan for motion and adjust the sensitivity. you can live monitor from anywhere on the web or your Apple or android cell phone and it will also e-mail you when it detects motion or write the images to a FTP site.
Not weather rated. it is WiFi-N wireless but requires power and also an ethernet RJ45 connection for initial setup.
I would imagine that one could easily make a weather enclosure for it. You can splice some thin and lightweight doorbell cable to the wall-wart they give you to extend the power over 50 feet I would imagine, just build a small wood box with a small plexiglas window; it comes with a base that can attach to a vertical or horizontal or even a ceiling and still be flexible about aiming the camera.Last edited by LCHIEN; 03-14-2012, 06:29 AM.

I would opt for an all Plexiglas box. That might fare better. Not weather rated. it is WiFi-N wireless but requires power and also an ethernet RJ45 connection for initial setup.
