Spooky to watch the video. I've operated a jet dryer on a handful of tracks, just being at the top of the banking with that much fuel on board is scary enough. It's a heck of a fight with gravity on the 1.5 mile tracks, i can only imagine what it's like at Daytona or Talledega.
Montoya seems to hit something every race. No wonder he is not in F1 or Indy car. It was very evident that something broke on his car to cause that. Later in the race his teamate has a incident also that indicated something broke, not a tire. NASCAR will change something to prevent that from happening again, propably a reduced speed when the Jet Dryers are out there, they also need "real fire trucks" there with foam.
I'm up at 4:30am so I decided to catch the highlights on nacar.com this morning. LOML was off today and stayed up to see the finish. She left me a note saying I would be very happy with the finish

Its not feasible to reduce speed while the dryers are on track. The dryers are on track quite often even though you may not see them. Also, Foam is a nightmare to clean up off of asphalt. It would likely do more harm than good. The Purple K did a good job of putting the actual fire out but it doesnt cool at all hence the constant re-ignition. I work at a Nascar track and this wasn't really a bad deal....what if that had been a cleanup crew out there picking up debris when his rear-end locked up?
