      Just to add to the discussion: Some restaurants charge the servers a percentage of their tips that are added to credit card bills to help cover the CC company charges. It's not real common, but I've taken to paying tips in cash just in case.

        of course towards the end of the evening they should be hovering discreetly nearby the table to see if i need anything else or left a cash tip and to wish me a goodbye and pleasant evening...
