    RIP Col. Potter

Sadly I heard the news that Harry Morgan, fine actor in many roles, passed away at the age of 96. I always enjoyed him as Col. Sherman T. Potter.

Well, boys - it would be hard to call what we've been through fun, but I'm sure glad we went through it together. ( Col Potter-final episode of MASH)

He was a great character actor. I remember him from the original Dragnet series, and of course M*A*S*H.

I grew up on M*A*S*H, and have all 11 seasons, both in individual season DVD boxes, and in the Martinis and Medicine collectors box set. To call me a M*A*S*H fan would probably be an understatement. I grew up watching that show, and can honestly say, even though most of Hollywood I find repulsive, the cast of M*A*S*H are a big part of my family experience... I knew the odds were low, but I always wanted to thank Harry Morgan, and the rest of the cast for their work on that series...

The warmth and heart that Harry Morgan brought to the series came through in his character, he will be missed...

I grew up on M*A*S*H, too. There were two episodes on every day starting at 5. I got to watch them if I had my homework done. Of course, being from Toledo, I do have the show in my blood.

I loved Col. Potter. Just the other day a bunch of us at school were talking about the episode where Col. Potter just learned of the passing of one of his old army buddies and he inherited the last bottle of champagne. He chose to share it with his 4077 family. That was a great show. He will be missed.

DB, next time you're in Toledo, look me up. We'll go to Tony Packo's .

Yep, very real. They now have 5 locations (at last count). Each one has several hot dog buns on display (in sealed cases) with signatures of celebs on them that have visited. All locations have a ton of M*A*S*H stuff.

They have been in the news a lot lately. The decendants of the founder have been in a nasty legal fight over ownership and bad business dealings. It just changed ownership out of the family within the past few weeks.

This would be an important destination for any M*A*S*H fan. I think I know where I am going to eat soon, it's been awhile for me...

Remember his first role on MASH as the CRAZY colonel? Funniest episode I remember!

He was a great addition to the show, and will be missed, just like MASH and the other great sitcoms of long ago.
We all have to go sometime, just not yet!

Harry Morgan was always a favorite to see, not only in "Mash", but in so many character roles in the movies. As an old movie fan, I can't begin to remember how many wonderful characters he has played.

One of my favorites and most recent was as the local Sheriff in the "Shootist", in which he tells John Wayne's character what he's going to do on his grave.

There was always such a warm and funny persona that he brought to the screen and it always made me think that he was pretty much like that in real life. If that was not his true character, than he was certainly a tremendously great actor for his portrayal of such.
