Lowe's closing stores and stopping some construction

This may explain why the new Lowe's they were building here in east Montgomery, AL hasn't had any work done in months. They graded the property and worked on the parking lot. After that...nothing.

Could possibly be reasons from what you linked to.

It might be permitting problems. Sometimes owners will start dirt work and sometimes flatwork before a permit for the building is issued.

It would seem that Lowes, in their haste to kill off the Mom & Pop operations, opened so many new locations that they are now forced to eat some of their young.

It seems like there's more to it than that, but I can't put my finger on what it is. I have four within 11 miles of my house. Two closed this week, but the one closest to my house is still open.

But it's never busy. Ever. It used to have a decent amount of traffic. There is a HD across the street and they are still busy.

And the way HD is run now, with what seems like a half dozen employees per store, empty and/or disorganized shelves etc- I can't for the life of me understand it.

Oh, this is an interesting development. A new Lowe's is planned near me. Like the one near JSUPreston, they graded months ago, but final permits have been slow to be taken out.

Last week the city went to bid on an overpass widening project affiliated with the Lowe's project. This could get interesting.

The Lowe's closets to me is in a somewhat poorly chosen location, and the few times I was there it felt fairly deserted. The BORG just 3 miles from there but in a better location (right by the interstate) is always fairly busy.

I was surprised to not find that Lowe's on the list of closing stores.

Same here. I can go 5 miles in different directions and find a Lowes or a HD. They are at times across the street from each other. It might be that a certain store for some demographic reason doesn't fare well, and it may close, only to re-open a short distance away.

This happened with a HD and a Builders Square across from each other. The Builders square closed and wasn't relocated, and the Home Depot closed and got bought by Wal Mart.
