C'man's speaker thread prompted this opposite story.
Last week my AC quit on me. We have been watching the fan motor for a while and it finally gave out. I called my neighbor, who is an electrician and also does AC repair. Told him it was hard to turn by hand and the one time it kicked in it only ran a few seconds and shut down. He asked for the HP and RPM on the motor, told me to shut the unit down, and he would get a motor on the way home.
I have been on 'vacation' and was in the back yard working on the pony barn and sort of keeping an eye out for him. About 7ish, I walked over to the AC and found the new motor installed and humming its little heart out.
Nick got home, came over, fixed the AC, and never said a word to anyone. He has been working on a big contract and I haven't seen him at the house. I am going to have to track him down to get a bill and pay him. Usually that comes to his cost for the parts. (Replacing a fried start capacitor a while back cost $12!)
