Gus and the Model Garage - Pop Science

I saw this link on the Stovebolt Page for old Chevy trucks to some of my favorite stories when I was a kid. I subscribed to Popular Science and devoured every issue cover to cover. One of my favorite features was "Gus and the Model Garage". I felt like I was his #1 helper!

Gus and the Model Garage, 1925-1969

    Gus's bio ...
"Gus Wilson was the main character of the series and part owner and master mechanic of the Model Garage. A thoughtful man, respected in his town, Gus was never without his common sense and trusty pipe. You could always tell when he was pondering possible solutions to a complex problem as he became quiet and lit up the famous pipe. That process was usually follow by the exclamation "I've got it" and then we were treated to the solution and the logic behind it."

I don't remember the articles, but they are cool. Thanks for posting it. I'll bookmark it so I can light up a pipe, and read them all when I have the time.

        Thanks for posting that website.

I remember reading Gus's stories way back when. Then forgot all about his articles. I thought his stories were in the Popular Mechanics mag, but no never mind, they were still great and informative readings.

I go to the Stovebolt website just about every night. I own a '54 Chevy truck. Not all original nor a total hot rod, but it's the way I want it. I never read or heard of gus and the model shop but I've enjoyed what I read so far. Nice post.
In my old age I look back and realize how lucky I was to live in a time when common sense was common.

thanks, after you mentioned it I recall reading those in the 60's. I always read that column. I had completely forgotten about them except for the subconscious memories. I had a enjoyed reading some of them - I don't recall any of the details but I sure remember Gus's sleuthing ways.

I quickly glanced through the list and just read one. As true today as it was 81 years ago.
