Child proof window - need an idea

I just finished up our little princess playroom and am now looking for some idea of how to child proof the windows.
I have found some commercial window bars, e.g. this one http://www.goodbarsecurity.com/catalog/ but besides the price what I don’t like is that the bars are horizontal, and since I’m not planning on covering the entire window, but only 2’ up, she will climb those bars in no time (she is 1 ½ year). So, anyone has any suggestions of how to make my own, or know of a place where I can buy some (with vertical bars)?

Do you really want bars on the windows, or are you looking for a way to secure the window?
I have a little blog about my shop

Three years ago I secured the windows in 3rd floor attic playroom by covering the lower half with 3/16 Lexan.

It worked well (neither of the kids fell out of a window) and now I've been asked to come back and remove the Lexan and fix the screw holes.

I love being a professional handyman! (I also get paid to assemble the kid's Christmas gifts!)
You might think I haven't contributed much to the world, but a large number
of the warning labels on tools can be traced back to things I've done...

I'm just looking for a way to secure the window. For now I will get one of those locks so the window can only open a few inches, but when it gets warmer I would like to be able to fully open the window.

I like the idea of using plexiglass, then I guess I just need a rop and bottom 'rail' which is waht will be attached to the wall.

what exactly are you trying to Childproof?
Child can't go out open window (leave home either accidentally or by nefarious beings)?
Child can;t access glass to break it by hitting it or leaning on it
child can't be seen by passer-by
Child can't access window and lose toys out open window
          Child can't open window
child can't get injured on broken glass if Window is broken by baseball or other flying external object.

          etc.

she is 1 1/2 so no chance of breaking from flying baseballs yet .

All I'm trying to do is to prevent her from falling out of window, but at the same time be able to keep the windows open.

              how about just a screen?
Most windows have slot for the screen it takes a little lift and push action to remove it.

What ever method you decide on, hang on to the parts. In about 12 years your gonna want to keep her in again. Oh . . . and the boys out.
