    Online Plans CD

I did a search before posting, but haven't seen anything about this site: Ted's Woodworking Plans.

I ran across this site several months ago, forgot about it, then hit it again yesterday. AFAIK, the "three days only" limited-time offer was exactly the same then as it is now. I'm also leery of sites full of testimonials instead of facts. Also, I have no idea how he figures a CD of plans plus a free viewer, some online videos, and two self-published books is a "$497 value."

Is this dude on the up-and-up, or what?

Hmmmm.... I just used your link to the website and a message came up in big red letters:

'WARNING: THIS SITE HAS A POOR REPUTATION'

edit: This warning is from WOT, Web of Trust, a 'website checker' that I use. I've been using it for 5 months now, this is the first time I've seen that, not sure if it means its a problem computer wise (virus etc.) or as far as being shady or what. Time to do some research.

Being a bit virus shy, I immediately clicked off it before I looked to see who the warning was from.

I use Avira free and Super Anti ASpyware on this computer, but don't know if it came from them or ?????

      Anyone else getting this message?

On one of the other WW'ng sites I visit, that site is spammed regularly by different screen names. There are several variations to the spam. It might appear in the introduction section with a question about finding a good site for plans. And then saying that a site was found...hyperlinked, and it looked great. Then asks if anyone has experience with them.

Or, when a legitimate question is posted about plans, a spammer will post..."Yeah, I found the greatest site"...with a hyperlink. This could be a set-up.

Or, a reply to plans, with a link as a signature.

Looks like a bunch of garbage to me, too.

Another site that was posted on herewas "Andy's ezwoodshop.com". Monthly 'newsletter' that started out with how bad most plans were and skipped essential steps then proceded to tell you about his methods you could download. One kit for design consisted of a plastic triangle and 3 sheets of graph paper. I have been deleting them but finally unsubscribed yesterday.

Way too many truely free plans out there to buy into something like this.

Just checked the site again today: the "limited time only" offer runs out three days from today, just like it would run out today three days ago.

It's obviously a scam, or at least not worth what he wants. Gotta admire the guy's hutzpah, though. After all, we'd save tons of money, time, and frustration if we'd just send him the low, low price right NOW!

C'Man, those just-registered-members-who-found-a-great-site frustrate the ##$%!!! out of me, too. Jeez, people, just tell me outright you're wasting my time!!!

            Argh.

some guy MARKLANDER spammed us here too, his first and only post was something like i found a site with 16,000 plans and I got a free CAD program too. He didn't say it was $67 for downloading the plans, and it was that woodshopprojectsdiy.com site.

several people told me he was spamming other sites with a simlar message so I deleted his post.

Eww. Makes me want to shower.

IIRC, Wood magazine did a short article on one of the "Thousands of Woodworking Plans" CDs. I believe the writer said that most of the plans were counted in several categories, thus padding the total number, and that in general the plans were just copies of free or low-cost plans from numerous WW sites. IOW, "Don't waste your money!"

What impresses me is the sheer audacity of this; kinda like those guys who rob banks during rush hour on a Friday. The action is reprehensible; the nerve to do it so openly is not.

I get asked every once in a while about advertising these deals on my site. The Ted's version of it asked last evening. I have been turning them down because I have yet to hear of one everybody likes. I also suspect that with that many thousands of plans, some may not be as up and up as they could be. I sued a guy (and won) a few years ago that ripped off several of my plans and had them on a CD he was selling. The ad dollars would be nice but not from outfits like that.

I have a big lawfirm in which 7 of the 9 senior partners are woodworkers and they love finding people ripping me off so they can nail them to the nearest wall. I sent them the info just in case. They have taken on two other plan CD operations for using my and others plans without authorization and they always get a settlement quickly.
