    Explain this to me

Do people on ebay not even research what products cost new anymore. This plane is $119 new. $135 with an A2 blade.

Guess not.. that's pretty strange. Veritas and Lie Neilson planes normally get some higher pricing for used planes, but it's kind of silly seeing them go for more than a used one.

Maybe it's "auction fever" when one person gets so caught up in the auction that they keep bidding no matter what. Don't let the other guy win!

It's one of the numerous reasons I don't go to auctions.

I was actually interested in getting this plane but once it got to $90 I thought it was too close to retail and gave up. Curious I check to see what it went for and

Probably so. I used to buy more things on ebay but lately many of the things I'm interested in get driven way too close to retail. And in some cases over it.

I used to go to local police auctions. It's amazing how high the bidding would go on items that were not much better than junk. I used to set a high bid on items I was interested in and stopped when it got there.

Ditto, set my max at auction and stick to it.

Check the prices on Ryobi 18V LiIon batteries. Buy it now prices at $150+ for batteries that go for $90 at HD.

Regarding 'buy it now', I have seen 2 identical items listed right under each other for prices that varied by $200.
Never being too sure of what I'm looking at, I sent a question to the seller of the higher priced item explaining that there seemed to be an identical item listed right below his on Ebay for $200 less, but I was sure I was missing something and asked him to please point out the difference.

His answer was 'no 2 items are exactly the same (this was a manufactured item, not something debateable like a gemstone) and different sellers have different costs'.
'And therefore I should buy from you why????! The sad thing is, he probably got some fool to buy it eventually.

Several years ago I saw an eBay auction for a $100 Walmart gift card. It sold for $104. No, I am not making this up.

An ebay "expert" once explained the high price tollerance, saying that there is a large popluation that live hours from any stores and that they are willing to pay above retail just to not have to spend half a day road trip to go shoping. A big brown truck just drops it off at their door.
