    Saved by Harbor Freight again

Been busy lately with work and new fiancee, so haven't posted much lately!

However, I thought you might find this interesting. The bridge broke off my classical guitar due to very dry conditions this winter. I looked into getting it fixed by a professional, at a cost of $90-110.

Then, being a cheapskate and enthusiastic DIYer, I decided to do it myself.

There were no deep-throated clamps at the big-box stores or even at Midwest Woodworkers in Omaha (basically a Woodcraft). But at Harbor Freight--success! 8" throat clamps for $6.99 each!

You can see before and after shots--so far 100% successful! I used Titebond 3 glue, by the way--recommended by a lot of luthiers for repairs of this type.

I haven't played a 6 stringer in decades. Probably couldn't remember how if my life depended on it... But the bass guitars (electric) I play all use metal bridges. I somewhat assumed a regular guitar used the same. I guess that's what we get for assuming...

      Nice job.

Low humidity can play havoc on delicate string instruments. Do you keep your guitar in a case with a musical instrument humidifier? I like to use Dampits.

Here's a tip. I like to use pieces of old hacksaw blades to make mini scrapers. These can be used to delicately clean off the old glue before regluing.

What pieces are you playing/learning on this guitar?
