    Nasty floods in OZ!

Our state of Queensland is in REAL trouble!

Fortunately, Melbourne is 1,000 miles south of Brisbane.
We are getting rain, but nothing like them.

Been thinking about you the floods. Glad you are ok. That is some huge amount of rain you are getting there.

Here is a little some to make you smile hopefully.

        Rod,

So glad to hear you weren't affected by the flooding.

        Kindest Regards,
        Chris

Many years ago my wife and I spent a pleasant but dull night in Bundaberg, one of the towns that was most affected by the floods. We saw video of the flooding in Queensland this evening and it is pretty awful.

Glad to hear you're OK, Rod. That is a LOT rain you all are getting. Tears my heart out to see the flooding.

Thanks for your concern, guys. Carole & I (in Melbourne) are not in any danger. A friend's son and his wife, in Brisbane, fortunately live on a nice high hill.

Try and imagine (say) Houston or some other major US city having all power cut (for safety), and the whole CBD (Central Business District) evacuated! That's what happened to Brisbane .

The floods have peaked and "started" to recede. Death toll is currently 13 but, as Rescue services are able to get to submerged cars/trucks and houses that have been swept away, that number will escalate quickly.

Here are some pics taken on January 3:

                This is NOW typical:

Oh, we had that in 2001 with Tropical Storm Allison. I worked in a 7 story office building on the North Freeway in Houston at the time. The first 2 floors were underwater. What a mess! I was fine down here by the bay though. My property is up somewhat relative to the flood plain...

Best wishes for everyone's safety through this, and a speedy recovery!
