    Link shortcut

Just noticed how many posts have a customized link shortcut to a website. I still mess around with tinyURL for this procedure, but the ability to label a link whatever you want really appeals.

So the question is, "How do you do this?". And the next question which may well be answered by the first is, "Does it only work on this site, or can it be used anywhere such as in an email message?".

It should work on any forum that uses BBcode, not in email messages though. Most forum software will automatically turn a URL into a link.

To do it manually (no spaces in the brackets) it's: [ url= http ://www. bt3central. com ]Your custom text [ / url ]

There might be some more here.

The VBulletin software actually truncates the link address shown (while linking to the entire original) and so you don't have to do it yourself. Just paste the original link in and VBulletin will take care of it for you.

Most email clients have built-in ability to create hyperlinks. Highlight the word you want to use as the link then click on the icon that looks like a globe and a chin link and copy/paste or type in the URL you want to link to.

Here is the one that I use:

          [ url=" "]click here[/url ]

Remove the space after the first [
Remove the space before the last ]
Add the full URL between the quote marks above and remove the spaces.
Add the word in place of "click here" that you want.
