    Don't forget tomorrow

    December 7, 1941.

Spend some time thinking about it's REAL MEANING to all of us.

God Bless America, cause we can use it.

Thanks Bruce for the reminder to all of us.

That date in 1941 will always be in our history. To all those who did not return home, God Bless You. For those that did return home, Thank You for turning the war around.

My Uncle Lawrence was lost on the Oklahoma. I didn't come along until 44', but his name and the many memorabelia from his service in the Pacific prior to the war, adorned my Grandparents farmhouse.

All the "boys" enlisted within weeks of that terrible day. My father serving in the Pacific theater with the army, my Uncle Vaughn with the Navy Air Corps, Uncles Hank and Charlie with the Army in Europe, and my Dad's cousin Jim, in the Pacific with the Marines. They all went and all came home, thankfully... but none of them ever talked about it. Like with any family, I loved all the stories that I've heard over the years, but they were all about the "boys" before the war and never once did I hear a word about their war experiences.

Dave, or is it that they won't fit on a NORMAL sized cake.

                CWS,

Even those of us that were in a war, usually don't feel comfortable talking abour what we did, saw, or were. And that goes not only for conversations with civilians, but amongst ourselves too. Waaay too many ghosts for any of us, young or old.

My great uncle was in Perl Harbor on that day. I have seen photos of the base prior to the attacks. It was beautiful. He never talked with me about his experiences in the war, and he passed away 10 years or so ago now.

My Dad was a little on the young side to catch WWII, or even Korea when the action was hot, but he was in the Navy serving in post conflict Korea, and then Vietnam. He was a photographer for the Navy, and of the few things he has told me about, they just make your skin crawl to think about. I am very grateful for the men and women that have served, and continue to serve this country. I wish I had been able to be among your numbers. (I was given a PMR in 1986 when I tried to join in Portland, and again in 1988 in Portland, and again in 1991 in Tucson... By then they figured out how to check the records... Yeah I wanted to serve!)

In my book Bruce there is no such thing as a NORMAL sized cake. No matter what size the cake is, the cake always runs out way before my appetite for cake does.
