    Adhesives

Maybe this should go in the project-related discussions forum but I figure I'll get equally good advice here.

I need to reattach rubber weatherstripping that's come loose from the bottom of a metal garage door. What adhesive should I be using for this? I have some contact cement but the container does not list metal as a suitable material.

I'll need to reattach a piece of vinyl to another metal door that's also come loose (because it was initially glued to the paint!!) and I'd expect to be able to use the same adhesive.

    Rubber to Metal
For the strongest bond, we recommend:
    Household Goop
Not as strong but good for a large area is:
    3M 80
Whenever you are gluing metal it's a good idea to clean it first with steel wool or sandpaper. (Rust never sleeps.)

You could use solvent based contact cement. I wouldn't use steel wool, as shards that become debris can rust. Use bronze wool or sandpaper.

I have used both Goop and 3M before for rubber to metal. Both work great.
The 3M stuff was more like a contact cement. The goop is in a class by itself.
Similar to another product I have used called Lexel.

I was looking for adhesives myself a short while ago, and I was amazed at all the specific types that are out there now.
I'm not sure if they do a better job or just generate more revenue for the company, as they seem to be more expensive than the 'general' adhesives.
cA glue seems to be good for just about anything, but I'm not sure it would be your best choice for this particular application.
          That's all I've got.

I would go to a Auto Parts Store and buy the stuff used on cars. It sticks well and is fast setting.

Make sure you have a clean area to glue too. Get rid of the rust, grime and squashed spiders then wipe it down with something like denatured alcohol.

I'll vote for Mr Bill's choice. I've used some of the automotive rubber adhesives with very good results. Let us know what you use and how well it worked.
