Any WASPs left in your neighborhood?

I let this one go all summer. They haven't bothered me and I don't bother them. I usually stay away from that side of the house anyways.

There's another on the 2nd floor eve that about 3/4 the size of the big one. It's not as densely populated though. Looks like a small group left the big city and went out to the suburbs on that window.

way too many for me. I would have shot that with the 30-foot spray stuff.

I eliminated a few smaller wasp nest from under the deck this weekend. It is amazing to see their workmanship. The bigger problem for me this year has been the stink bugs, specifically the brown marmorated one imported from Asia. I live next to the woods and these stinkers were all over the place. Doors, windows, car door iambs etc were no match for these stinkers.......I'm sort of happy the seasons are changing. Strangely I haven't seen a Japanese beetle for the past 2 years as the stinker population has increased.

A bent utility hook. My wife had white Christmas lights and all sorts of other stuff strung out there when she used to work in her garden. The place is lousy with hooks, nails, etc.

Well, up here we wait a couple of weeks until winter and then the problem is solved...

They love to invade my garden shed and setup in a quiet corner. As soon as the nest is the size of a fist I'm usually able to spot it and blast it out with black flag.

At that size though, it's going to take multiple cans over a couple weeks to make the nest safe enough to pull it off with a rake and dump in a water bucket.

I don't know what happened, but the one that was up on the 2nd floor eve fell off Sunday night. I was pulling out of the driveway Monday morning and noticed something that looked like a softball by the walk. Looked up and confirmed my suspicions.

There were only a handful of wasps flying around that eve area Monday night. My 6 y.o. granddaughter was only slightly interested with it. We checked it out and I explained what it was and all. Then I stopped her from kicking it...

I don't mind 'em if they take up residence away from areas that we don't normally go. They are a predator and keep the other bugs in check. There is one in the greenhouse/storage thing that has to go.

No way, last time I took fire to a bug it was just short of a disaster. That was few decades ago.

I got up late one night and went into the bathroom to get a drink of water. A waterbug (big, fast cockroach) shot out of the overflow in the sink and into my cupped hands. The thing really startled me so I figured 'I'll fix him'. I grabbed my right guard spray and a lighter and blew some flames at him trying to scurry around in the sink.

Well, he didn't cook very quickly. I also didn't know he was a Kamikaze. So he half flies and scurries quickly across the tile counter towards some decorations in the corner. He's also still on fire.

These decorations are some dried flowers, grasses & such. Really feathery stuff that was in fact; highly flammable. It immediately bursts into flames once that bug got near. All the feathery material burnt off pretty quickly. I grabbed the shower sprayer and put what was left of the fire out.

The commotion woke my dad up and he came out to see what's up. My answer to his "What the H*ll is going on in here!!?" query was "Just killing a waterbug." He stared at me for a few seconds (I can't even imagine what was going through his head), after looking at the water soaked counter, wallpaper & mirror, also with little black pieces of burnt flowers and grasses stuck to them. Surprisingly, he just walked off shaking his head.

That was the last time I used fire on a bug...
